Executive Functioning Support
Learning is critical to a child’s development in acquiring, expressing, and utilising new information. However, learning can be hindered when a child is faced with neurocognitive challenges. Neurocognitive challenges are also referred to as ‘executive function concerns’.
Executive function skills are dependent on three primary brain functions: working memory, mental flexibility, and self-control. We use these skills daily to learn, work and manage our lives. Difficulties with executive function can impact a child’s ability to focus, follow directions, and regulate emotions. One of the most diagnosed executive function issues is attention deficit hyperactivitiy disorder (ADHD).
We support the development of executive function skills by working with children and adolescents through multifaceted, evidence-based therapy approaches. Other professionals who may be involved in your child’s care are psychiatrists, occupational therapists, and learning enhancement specialists.
